Lets be transparent.... Cards on the table.
I started building 'A' series race engines in 1993 for the world famous MED engineering, after 11 great years with MED in 2004 i decided to leave and set up Morspeed
Things were great, i was considered one of the best, building engines for most race series including Mini7, Miglias & Mighty mini
i was supplying engines and modified heads to the public and trade all over the world, by 2007 the company was growing too fast to soon & became so overwhelming orders were not being delivered on time, then in 2008 things went horribly wrong... i sold a customer a second hand bespoke race engine (used in my own track car), unfortunately due to unforseen circumstance the customers family requested a refund, in hindsight i should have agreed, BUT being a bespoke engine i refused thinking it would be too difficult to sell on, that was a decision ill regret for the rest of my life.
i was taken to court and understandably lost, this then continued to full online slander of Morspeed with forums mostly full of lies which then led to concerned customers cancelling engines and requesting deposits to be refunded, i refunded over £30,000 and borrowed further to desperately try and stay open but in 2009 i couldnt recover, the ballifs arrived and they cleared out my workshop taking all the machinery, stock and remaining customers units. i lost everything including my reputation.
Now lets move forward....
The price of 'A' series engines and its components are ridiculous, now almost beyond the average Mini enthusiasts pocket, reason being more and more of the well known large companys no longer do there own machining and buy in components such as steel cranks, steel rods, forged pistons etc for there engine builds, even cylinder heads are now modified by CNC well fair play to them as old core units are now getting hard to find but were does this leave the enthusiast with not so deep pockets?
For years ive been begged by past customers to provide them with a modified head or re-built gearbox and ive always declined as ive moved on have a job and the past is the past.
May 2025 work dried up and im on part time, at 53 years old its come as a blow but again i was asked by past customers and decided why not? so i was given a head casting and a friend gave me the use of a small corner of his workshop and after 16 years another Morspeed race head was produced, the very happy customer paid & gave me in return 3 old 998cc heads and 2 old gearbox's which ive now modified/refurbished and sold enabling me to buy a few more core units.
So what now?....
So now ive decided to build a basic website that shows exactly what i can offer built in my spare time but more importantly only what i have in stock on the shelf and ready to go, and doing this in between my 'proper' job means more affordable parts to modify your 'A' series engine as i have no workshop of my own or overheads, this is simply a website with a clear indication of whats available at the time, NO deposits NO pre ordering.
if there is something in stock you would like then please drop a message to double check and once you purchase the goods within 24hrs your item will be packaged & you will recive an Email with the 2-3 day courier tracking number.
